FAQ
What are Botox Anti-Wrinkle treatments?
Anti-wrinkle injections soften fine lines and wrinkles, most popular treatment areas are forehead lines, frown lines, crow’s feet and eyebrow lift.
How does Botox work?
Botox also known as botulinum toxin when injected into a muscle it temporarily relaxes it by blocking nerve impulses. As the nerve impulses are blocked the muscle is temporarily unable to contract so that dynamic wrinkles are not formed. This gives the overlying facial skin a softer, smoother and more youthful appearance.
Is Botox safe?
Botulinum Toxin as a muscle relaxant has an excellent safety record and a long record of use in medicine. It has been used successfully in variety medical conditions over the last 20 years. It has been used cosmetically to treat facial wrinkles for about 15 years and has become one of the most popular and frequently used cosmetic treatments.
Who can have Botox?
Botox treatment can be used for treating wrinkles and medical conditions in men and women over 18 years old, however men often need slightly higher doses than women.
Does the treatment hurt ?
Botox injections are relatively painless as the injections are performed using a very fine needle. Patients therefore do not require any anaesthesia. The full treatment takes about 15-30 minutes to perform and you are able to drive and carry out most activities the same day.
How long do effects last?
It can take up to 14 days to see the full effects after the initial treatment. The cosmetic effects typically range from three to six months. Eventually most people require a top up treatment as the wrinkles and muscle movement reappears.
Are there any possible side effects?
Most patients find that the injections cause only mild local pain and tenderness. Immediately after the injection there may be mild swelling at the injection site which usually subsides within 48 hours. Slight bruising is also possible. Side effects of these treatments are extremely rare. As with any medicine an allergic reaction may occur, this is however quite rare. Conversely there may be some unintended benefits in some patients such as easing of tension type headaches and migranes as the muscles in the forehead relax.
Aftercare
We recommend:
Avoid rubbing or touching the injected areas for at least 4 hours.
Sit up for the first 4 hours as bending or lying down might spread the toxin and promote bruising.
Avoid having any facials, massage and sun exposure for at least 72 hours.
Avoid vigorous exercise, hot tubs, saunas and alcohol consumption for 48 hours.
Avoid aesthetic treatments for 2 weeks after injections.
Anti-Wrinkle Treatment Areas
3 areas - Forehead lines, Frown Lines and Crow’s Feet
Forehead wrinkles (lines across the forehead), frown lines (wrinkles between the brows also known as ‘11s’) and crow’s feet (lines at the corner of the eyes), are areas often treated with anti-wrinkle injections. Treating these areas during a single session can refresh the entire upper face and give it a youthful appearance.
The Brow lift
Anti-wrinkle injections can rejuvenate the brow and provide a non-surgical brow lift. Botox is injected into specific areas around the eyebrows to relax the muscles that typically pull the eyebrows down. The treatment elevates the brows and opens the eyelids, creating a more youthful look. This procedure is ideal for clients with mild heaviness in the brow area.
Bunny lines
The fine wrinkles that develop on your face over time and appear when you scrunch your nose, are known as bunny lines. Anti-wrinkle injections effectively treat these pesky lines by relaxing the nasalis muscle. The injections temporarily prevent the contraction of the muscle and smooth the wrinkles.
Lip flip
A Botox lip flip is an anti-ageing treatment that makes the lips fuller and more defined. The lip rejuvenating results are achieved by injecting Botox into the muscles around the upper lips. This relaxes the muscles and encourages a fuller lip line. A lip flip enhances the appearance of the lips without increasing volume. It can be an alternative or complement to hyaluronic acid lip fillers.
Mini nose job
A mini nose job narrows the sides of the nose and lifts the nasal tip. When injected into the tip and bridge of the nose, the anti-wrinkle treatment relaxes the muscles responsible for pulling the nose down. This improves the appearance of the nose and reduces the nasal flare.
Chin pebbles, chin dimples and lines
Botox can treat chin pebbles, dimples, and lines. The pebbled texture of the skin and dimples become more evident over time, due to the hyperactivity of the chin muscle. Injecting the toxin directly into the chin muscle reduces muscle activity, creating smoother, even-textured skin.
Underarm excessive sweating
Also called Hyperhidrosis is a medical condition characterised by excessive sweating in certain areas of the body, such as the armpits, palms, or feet. It can be embarrassing and interfere with daily activities. People with hyperhidrosis may present severe underarm sweating even when they are cold or stressed. Sometimes topical antiperspirants are not enough to combat axillary hyperhidrosis.
By injecting botox into the underarms, it blocks the signals from the nerves responsible for sweating, stopping the sweat glands from producing too much sweat.
Gummy smile
A gummy smile occurs when too much gum tissue is exposed above the top teeth when smiling. This is often due to the hyperactivity of the muscles that elevate the upper lip. Botox can temporarily relax the muscles that cause the upper lip to lift too high. This reduces the amount of gum seen when smiling, so you feel more confident about your smile.
Face slimming
The face slimming V Shape treatment uses Botox injections to create a V-shaped facial structure by targeting the masseter muscle. These are large muscles in the jaw responsible for clenching and chewing. When the masseter muscles are relaxed, the facial contours are slimmer and assume a V-shape.
Downturned smile
As we age, we often lose volume around the mouth, especially in the lower corners, creating the appearance of a downturned mouth. Botox corrects a downturned smile by temporarily relaxing the overactive muscles that pull down the corners of the mouth. This gives the mouth a balanced appearance, making you look vibrant and refreshed.
Smokers Lines
Anti-wrinkle injections can also reduce the pesky lines around the mouth that form due to repeated facial movement. The toxin reduces the contraction of the muscle, making lines less visible, and defining lip contours.
Masseter / Teeth grinding
Once botox is injected into the masseter muscles, it will work by temporarily relaxing the muscles, reducing nerve signals from reaching the muscles that play a pivotal role in clenching and grinding. Masseter Botox will help to alleviate and prevent involuntary movements of bruxism.
Neck Bands
Vertical neck bands are caused by the laxity of the platysmas muscle in the neck and the loss of skin elasticity over time. Botox can relax the platysmas muscle and smooth neck bands, giving the neck and jawline a sculpted, rejuvenated look.
